I stayed in the hotel with my family on New Year's Eve and have nothing negative to say. The property and our rooms were beautiful. The staff spoke English (unlike anywhere else we stayed in Bahia) and arranged a city tour for us on December 31st - not an easy feat. We felt safe walking around the Pelourinho, although the... Yes, the hotel structure is undeniably beautiful. But, for us, thats where it ended. Our room was like a cave. I understand that because of the age of the building there are no lights overhead. The rooms rely on floorlamps. Our room had three lamps - one of which did not work the whole time (and after two calls to... More

This is a super hotel with a lot of atmosphere and you really get something of the feel of how it would have been when the monks lived there. They have retained many of the features that make it such an intersting place to stay. There is also a sacristy within the hotel which is kept locked but will be... More

We really enjoyed staying here. The convent is beautiful and the rooms are lovely. It is right in the heart of the old town - the area is quite dodgy - particularly after dark- so best to catch cabs and stick to main streets. More

This 'leading' hotel needs leadership. The hotel failed to arrange for our airport pickup, did get us to our room promptly, but ignored us when we went down to the restaurant for a meal: we eventually sat ourselves, then waited 20 minutes for a menu and it took another half hour to order and secure a glass of wine. Asking... More

I just stayed in the Pestana Convento de Carmo for the last four days with my family. It was an excellent experience. Not only is the hotel located in a great part of the city (the historic center), but it is also a beautiful building. The center of activity in the hotel is the circular pool/fountain in the courtyard. While... More

The hotel is an old Convent. There is a central courtyard with a round swimming pool, sunbeds and palms. I found the music played in the background somewhat irritating. The bedrooms (en suite) have been created from the old nun's cells and are simply but adequately furnished. I found our bathroom a little cramped. Some of the rooms can look... More

A converted convent that has been tasttefully restored, but needs some training and attention to detail. The first thing that gets your attention when you enter the hotel is the circular, green swimming pool that looks like it was a converted fountain. Shame that as it is surrounded by trees all the leaves drop into the pool and no one... More

This place is absolutely gorgeous. It's a 450 year old converted monastery that later became a convent, and then a hotel, now a part of the Small Leading Hotels of the World category. The service is impeccable; location is amazing in the heart of Pelurinho; and the rooms are just amazing. We especially loved the restaurant service here. Elio, the... More

We stayed in Pestana Convento do Carmo for 3 nights in September 2011. The hotel is set in an absolutely stunning building (and old convent) and is an absolute oasis in a busy city. Service is top class, food and drinks were fantastic, and the spa treatments were excellent. We found that there isn't a huge amount to do in... More
