The Pelerinho Area (Historic District) is the place to stay, this hotel is located just outside touristy part of town - approx 15min walk. It's a very enjoyable walking through the streets - roads are made of cobble stones and rocks, the supermarket was also close by... unfortunately it was not recommended to walk the streets late at night, however... more

I cannot believe what Sterma is saying about this hotel. I was there last year, and it was incredible!!! One of the most lovely places we've stayed. And the most relaxing. Very comfortable beds, beautifully furnished, with a lot of attention to detail. We were very disappointed on arrival at this “boutique” hotel. It is in a very run down part of the city, and a 15 minute walk from the centre of the Pelourinho area.
