Although Expresso is the "economy" branch of the Solare hotel chain, we felt that the rates (rack rate over 300 Reais; we paid just under 200 through a travel agent) were high for what we got. Most of the rooms are small and beds, while adequate for one prson, are small for two adults. There are a small number of somewhat larger rooms on each floor. Decor is minimalist, at best. Bathroom fine. Some traffic noise from the busy streets below. Wi-Fi in the room free; computers in the "business center" cost 20 centavos per minute. Walls are thin (we had to change rooms due to noisy neighbors). Breakfast buffet, included in the rate, is good. Restaurant also open for lunch and dinner but, except for the chicken soup, items are pricey and you can do better elsewhere. Location is not bad: an easy 15-minute walk to the Praça da Republica (site of the Teatro da Paz) in one direction, or the Museu Emilio Goeld (and botanic garden, small zoo) the other. Taxis... more
