After scoping out a $40 seedy motel and a $90 resort/chain in Ashland, we asked a local bartender to recommend a cheap place to stay the night. He said that the motel attached to the bait shop was newly remodeled. We stopped in skeptically, and turned to leave at the $70 rate, but the owner asked us to just take a look at the room.

I wanted to move in.

While it was small (due to the building footprint), not only was it clean and fresh, but it was comfortable with the kind of touches that many expensive B&Bs we've stayed at have failed to achieve. Clean soft green walls with wood floors, sloped ceiling, and ceiling fan. Right-sized flat-screen HDTV with satellite dish. Big shower with great showerhead, seat and corner shelves, and built-in dispensers of shower gel, shampoo, AND conditioner. Sink with dispensers of soap AND lotion.
