We finished a six month trip of Central and South America by spending 5 nights at the Do Canto Inn on Ilha Grande prior to flying home from Rio.
The island is AMAZING, but we would advise that you will get much better value for money staying elsewhere in town.
The Do Canto Inn is very clean, has a small swimming pool at the front and does offer a varied cold breakfast each morning...
...however the service of the general staff is poor (the manager himself is both friendly and helpful), the location is a 1km walk down the beach and though the hotel advertises television in the rooms they have not bothered to suscribe to satallite as all of their competitors seem to have done and only offer three local portuguese channels (one of which seems to be obsessed with dubbed re-runs of Woody the Woodpecker) and the local shopping network.
