I say this hotel is an island because it's a little point of civilization and politeness in the middle of the ocean of disorder, noise and bad smell that characterize the center of Rio de Janeiro. So, if you go to Rio for business and you will not have time to get around, visit and enjoy the city, this is the right place. But if you expect to go around on foot to explore the neighbourhood... NO! DON' T DO THAT! Is dangerous and over all desagreable.

We stayed there around New Year when prices skyrocketed elsewhere. This would not be our first choice, given the location - the area around it can be deserted during holidays and the beach is about 20 minutes by bus/taxi, or more, depending on the traffic. But for city center sightseeing the location is perfect, and the hotel itself was a fair deal. The room we stayed in was huge, the staff were helpful and there was more choice for breakfast than other places we stayed for similar amount. On the downside, the gym is not well ventilated, the rooftop pool is small (but with good views) and our room did not have an especially good views either. Overall, we took the plunge and went for it without having seen any reviews, and were positively surprised. more
