Overall, it's worth what you pay for, considering it's Rio and they charge an average of US$100/night on low season. Service is good, rooms are clean, well located in Copacabana/Leme border, good bathroom w/ good shower and a great pool at the rooftop with partial/obstructed ocean view. Rooms are a bit depressing... Old, worn out, tacky decor and furniture. The... more

Stayed at The Merlin hotel in November 2008 for 3 nights as part of a tour. The location is just off Copacabana beach and in a good location for access around Rio . We caught a bus a few yards down the road from the hotel directly to the Corcovado railway - very simple and cheap. Taxis in to The Scenarium... more

This hotel is not loyal to its customers at all! I went there for the carnaval, since during that time, it's really hard to find hotel, I finally ended up with this hotel. I thought it was OK since I was overwhelmed in finding hotels. Some reviews were OK, so I thought it was worth to try. But I swear,... more

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Merlin Hotel as part of a 2 day trip to Rio. The hotel is dated but was probably grand 'in its day'. The rooms are ok. The beds are small and uncomfortable but the bathrooms are better and have a great double shower. Located a (dodgey) stroll from Copacabana beach and right next... more

Although close to the beaches of Copacabana and the Rio Sul shopping centre, I found the Merlin to be lacking its 4 star glamour. Does that make sense? The hotel has not been updated for a long time and it is now clearly showing. I found the reception staff to be perfunctory rather than friendly which was a tad disconcerting,... more

I stayed at this hotel in April of 2005. When we checked in the lobby was nice and clean. The receptionist gave us information on the internet access available to the guests of the hotel for a nominal fee. The room was nice and big with a sofa bed and queen size bed. The bathroom was clean and had nice... more

We enjoyed our stay here. The room was spacious and the bathroom was very nice. The staff was friendly and the service was excellent. The breakfast selection was large, and the roofdeck pool was a nice touch. The only negative is that the hotel is located at the top end of Copacabana, near Leme. If you don't mind staying far... more

No complaints about this hotel at all. Friendly staff who organised all our activities for us if requested. Decent rooftop pool, good quality rooms and plenty of options at the breakfast buffet which was included in the price. The hotel is about a five minute walk from the top end of Copacabana beach which leaves you facing a long walk... more

The lovely bronze ladies donning the enterance of the Merlin Copacabana Hotel, set the stage for this lovely hotel. The lobby is beautifully appointed and is a quiet and comfortable place to wait for friends. Our room, though a bit small was very adequate and comfortable and the bath and shower excellent. The breakfast room is elegant and the buffet... more
