I spent a week at the Hotel Miramar Palace, where the US Embassy used to house its foreign service officers and diplomats, and where Pan Am used to house its pilots and flight attendants. Our flight out of town was delayed, so the airline rushed us to the Hotel Gloria, the Grand Old Lady of Rio hotels, where the Emperor... More

I had the pleasure of being able to Visit rio a few years ago through a friend who is in the Travel Business,we had the choice of two hotels and chose the Gloria, I loved every minute, we stayed in the original building, the room large and yes the paint need a little touch here and there but the beds... We unfortunately flew with Aerolineas Argentinas Airlines to get to Rio. It is the absolute worst airlines I have ever flown with. They constantly cancel flights, which is why we ended up at this hotel for one night. They cancelled our flight and had to put us up in a hotel. They placed us at Hotel Gloria. It is one... More

I stayed at the Hotel Gloria while I was at a conference in the summer of 2004. The hotel reminded me of a movie setting from the 1930s. The staff were very professional and courteous. The room was nice...not great. There was a little beach out front, but I didnt feel it was best for tourists. There was also this... More

This hotel is not for everyone. It is old, and although well maintained, its amenities are not modern. However, anyone who appreciates historical charm will appreciate it. There are lovely views, pools, alcoves and tons of period kitsch. It is the grand old dame of Rio hotels and the dame is a little temperamental. The location is superb (unless one... More

I stayed here for a conference. After reading the reviews on Trip Advisor I was very concerned about this hotel but it was the conference hotel so I went anyway. The hotel has 2 different buildings, the main hotel (the old part) and the annex. I think there is a huge difference between these two. I stayed in the old... More

I stayed in hotel Gloria 5 days in Janyary 2007. Outside it looks like a palace but actually it was little bit a disappointment. Rooms are quite old and decayded. In European standarts hotel is about 2 stars, but it has a great history :) I love the city however. More

We booked this hotel at the end of our round the world trip to finish in 5-star style. Our room was a huge disappointment.... Paint off the walls, tv entertainment system not working (and hadn't been for 1 year). Nicest restaurant was continuously booked for conferences and the "tropical" swimming pool was not even in the sun during the whole... More

Arrived at around 5.30am. Went to check in and told we would have to pay for another night, so we said in that case we'll leave our bags and come back after 2pm. At that point the bloke on the desk gave us a key and said you can have the room now, we assuming that they had relented and... More
