I was looking for a good hostel in Rio but I didn't expect to find anything as good as Mellow Yellow. The staff were knowledgable and helpful and the location is brilliant. It is also great fun staying there and the hostel is extremely well kitted out. I would stay again if I come back this way. more

This is a huge backpacker factory, completely without any soul or charm! Don't waste your time, Rio has so many other backpacker places where you can stay comfortably and without bedbugs, disgusting bathrooms, unhelpful princesses in the reception, too many drunken first-time travellers... Clearly not every hostel is suitable for everyone. Mellow Yellow is a large hostel with a largely young crowd intent on partiyng and making the most of the best hostel bar in Brasil. Those in search of a quiet, quaint hostel with a family feel may not like it. This seems to be the above guests preference. That's a matter...

we are here now and its really awful, noise all the time, dirt and detiriation, damp and smelly its a tower block with no lift. no one mentions this, its so bad and an ugly ugly place to stay. theres much better places to stay. one thing Mellow Yellow do is get you to go to the street party, its... more

Well what can we say. For a start the guests opinion is clearly not indicative of the general consesus about mellow yellow. As regards the Lapa street party, how this has anything to do with the hostel I do not know. We organise transport there every friday to save guests money. Its not a tour.
