Mama Ruisa has it all. It is expensive but your experience is so unique that I feel the price fits. It is beautifully decorated with great staff. It is tucked in the hills above Rio and the views are wonderful. On hot days if you can't face sight seeing you can just lounge by the pool - which is what... more

This is a small, boutique guest house (not hotel) with 7 rooms in the charming colonial area of Santa Teresa. Wonderful historic house, with stylish blend of modern and vintage interiors. Rooms are large and 4 open on to lovely balcony with views. Pool area and grass lawn. No restaurant, no minibar etc. Can offer B/L/D upon request. Property well... more

The area, the view and the house are charming, romanting and personal. The pool is small but great. The service is very nice and they did their best to make our stay easy, relaxing and agreable. However, the level of standing is quite simple: bath rooms are basic and not separated from the room, refrigerators are noisy, AC are not... more

This is a lovely mansion with large rooms and a beautiful pool located in a quiet section of Rio away from the beaches. They charge four star rates (US$300 standard, US$425 suite) but do not offer four star amenities. The public areas are not air conditioned and the small AC in our suite was not able to properly cool the... more

I'm recommending this Hotel and I will thanks them for having... more

It is a great small hotel in Rio bohemian Santa Teresa with magnificent views of Guanabara Bay and Sugar Loaf. You feel really welcome - the rooms are individually decorated with very good taste; staff are extremelly friend especially Jean Michel and Lydia both French, and very charming and elegant. I am from Rio and decided to swap Ipanema for... more

A wonderful weeks stay. It felt like you were the guest of someone who wanted nothing more than to please you. The room was wonderful with a seperate seating area that looked out on to a banana tree. The pool area where you have breakfast has a clear view of the sugar loaf. Jean Michelles taste in art is fantastic... more

As I caught a glimpse from my cab of a pristine white mansion half-hidden behind a stately wall and immaculate shrubbery, I found myself congratulating myself for choosing Mama Ruisa. Even though I was in the middle of an enormous urban landscape, I felt as if I had arrived at country estate. Based on the hotel website, I had high... more

Jean-Michel's house in Santa Teresa is beautiful. Our room was exceptional with a comfortable king bed, large ensuite (with corner tub big enough for two), air-conditioning & french doors that opened out onto the balcony with views over Rio & the Sugar Loaf. The pool area & gardens are gorgeous. Jean-Michel was the perfect host & thanks to his recommendations... more
