A little gem

This little gem should be on the map for all travellers. It is small with a most charming and beautiful, geranium-filled patio, surrounded by the bedrooms. The owners were incredibly helpful and warm, so that you felt at home immediately. So it doesn't have a huge bathroom and bedroom, and the breakfast is basic, but those are perfectly adequate, and... more

After a last minute, weather-related change of itenerary, we contacted Hotel del Cid to see if they had availability...they did, and we were glad. TripAdvisor listed them as the favorite of La Serena, and we can see why. The location is excellent, in the center of town, a quick walk from one of the finest craft markets in Chile. Buildings... more

My partner and i stayed 2 nights at Hotel De Cid and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The owners are friendly and extremely helpful. We had a bit of a language problem with the lady of the house but were able to overcome all obsticles with a good translation book and sign language. We had a lot of laughs and hugs!... more

My wife and I spent one night in this hotel and found it to be very friendly and within a comfortable walking distance to the center of town. The rooms were simple but very clean with a comfortable bed and cable tv. We would stay there again without hesitation. more

Yes, we were disappointed, especially after reading some great reviews on TA. I’ll start with the positives: secure parking and a good, hot shower. But they end there. Our room was dumpy, with dormitory style furniture and bedding. This hotel is one of those places that look better in the pictures than in real life. The interior courtyard, although pretty... more

We arrived late at night and were more than a little apprehensive when we first drove up. They opened a security gate into a small car park which was dark, messy and looked to be in the middle of a construction site. However, the staff soon won us over. A friendly and helpful man came to the parking area with... more

Delightful hotel. Beautiful courtyard, very friendly and helpful staff. Good public spaces. The room wasn't that big, but that was not a problem. Nice big windows and high ceilings. The hotel is a short walk from a main pedestrian street. The street is busy, but inside the courtyard, you don't hear the noise at all. It really is a delightful... more

A charming, cozy, little hotel, with a very helpful and friendly staff and located in a very convenient part of the city. Even when the building faces a very busy street (where the incessant vehicle flowing and brusque driving style can grate at your nerves), the traffic noise stops strictly at the hotel's door and does not permeate the oasis... more

Beautiful hotel, but felt unhappy about the final invoice. We had put some of our laundry items into the hotel service and they decided to charge us $12.000 Chilean Pesos, only for a handful of items. DO NOT USE THE LAUNDRY SERVICE unless you want to get shafted. Also, when we arrived it was at 7am, the hotel served us... more

We let these guests check in five hours early, without any charge, but we draw the line at giving them free breakfast as well ! Sorry, but we don't serve two nights' worth of breakfast for a one night stay....

Great!

John and his wife are lovely and really helpful. The hotel is one of those amazing Chilean buildings that hides a pretty courtyard and rooms behind an unprepossessing front door. They also have private, secure off-street parking which is crucial in La Serena. It's on a busy street but once inside you can't hear the traffic and it's an easy... more
