We went for a weekend on the Brijuni island in Croatia in July 09 (two friends and a 18 month old baby). I cannot reccommend the islands enough as the nature is absolutely breathtaking and it is the most peaceful and serene environment you could find yourself in. This is our fourth visit to the Neptune. It's pricey, shabby but very romantic. We love just cycling to a deserted bay for a swim and a picnic lunch.Usually dine on the mainland, much cheaper and good.Hotel Marina has good restaurant. No Air Con in hotel rooms, but sea view rooms are North facing ,so cooler. The ambience of the island makes up for the hotel. more

It’s just as well that Brijuni island requires at most a couple of days of exploration, because staying at the Neptun for more than one night would probably be quite depressing. As previously noted the décor is 1970’s schlock-horror. I’ll also add that it’s been some time since I’ve stayed in a bathroom without a sink plug, or tried to... more

The island is lovely, but the hotel is in need of major refurbishments. You open the door to your room and you are back in the '70s - carpeted walls, beige and orange colourways, bad communist artworks on the walls...Service is brisk. Dining a' la carte is strongly advised over the 'all in one' formulas. more
