Kenan Devan / The Tea Estate is the 40,000 acre tea plantation which was bought from Tata Tea in 2005 by the employees of the company. The tourism wing of the company has about a dozen Villas at various location in Munnar which centrally manages booking. When we booked, it seemed clear that we were not dealing with a "service-oriented" institution but one that was more bureaucratic in nature. I actually had to go to the KD office to make my payment in cash before I checked in--which I found unusual. The properties themselves are in gorgeous locations but the amenities, rooms and utilities are both poorly maintained, borderline dirty and poorly equipped (there was not butter at our breakfast and we were paying Rs 5000 per night; the bathtub had not been properly cleaned and looked like it was from the 1960s while the soap and shampoo packets were antique in bad way).
