When reading the overwhelmingly positive reviews for Prom Tong Mansion, I was wondering if they could all really be true. My husband and I spent a night at Prom Tong, and I cannot say enough good things about it. The manager, Jeeda, is exceptional and is the reason for the 5-star reviews. Prior to arriving, Jeeda promptly answered train-to-hotel transfer questions, including the price we should expect to pay. I always appreciate knowing what the typical fee should be. Upon arrival, we were shown promptly to our room, which was nicely decorated and very comfortable. The A/C works VERY well, which you need in Ayutthaya. The wifi was strong and we were even able to make a video call to my family on Christmas Eve. Jeeda, who speaks excellent English, came to our room shortly after arrival, armed with a map and all pertinent information. She suggested the boat tour from 4-6 pm, which allows you to see sunset at Wat Chaiwatthanaram. This is a worthwhile tour costing 250 baht per person. Although it was a bit rushed at each temple, you'll enjoy the nice breeze off the river. We had read about the 6-temple ticket, and Jeeda mentioned that as well. We decided to buy it, and made it to 5 of the 6 temples covered by it. Jeeda was nice enough to mark these specific temples on the map. We set off to explore, feeling confident due to all the useful information Jeeda provided. Prom Tong is just off a busy road, with easy walking access to several temples. It is a peaceful place, and is locked in the evening, so no one at the front overnight. You will be given a key to open the gate in case you are out after they lock up. This was not a problem at all. We chose to pay 200 baht each for the breakfast, which was a nice selection of eggs, toast, and fruit. We appreciated that Jeeda would refill our water bottles upon request, as we needed it! There are no other food services besides coffee and tea in the room, so you'll want to visit the 7-11 nearby to get beer and/or snacks for the evening. The closest attraction to Prom Tong is actually one of the most famous, Wat Mahathat. This has the Buddha face in the tree. It is only a 7 minute walk from Prom Tong. Just five minutes more and you'll reach Ratchaburana, one of my favorites. A little farther, but still walkable, are Wat Phra Ram, (sunrise), , you can also reach Wat Phra Si Sanphet, and Wat Phra Mongkhon. If you are willing to walk 30 minutes or so, you can also get to an enormous reclining buddha, Wat Chaiwatthanaram. All this is to say that the Prom Tong's location is perfect for exploring Ayutthaya's treasures on foot. When you get hot or tired, a tuk tuk ride is never far away. Grab a business card from Jeeda beforehand and you are good to go! Prom Tong Mansion is what every lodging should be: welcoming, comfortable, informative, and affordable. You cannot go wrong by staying here. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer.…
