A sackful of wholesomeness awaits you as you bicycle through this super-friendly town, which comes alive at night. When I arrived during the day, there wasn’t even anyone at Baan Lotus, and the owner asked me to let myself into any room I wished to. This set the tone for the rest of my stay. I immediately felt like I could trust the residents, a feeling which remained with me for a while. After getting a spot of reading done on the hammock at the back of the guesthouse, surrounded by a quiet lotus pond, I borrowed one of their cycles to ride the temple ruins of Ayutthaya. Wat Mahathat, Wat Thammasikrat, and Wat Chaiwatthanaram were all within a comfortable distance, and can be covered in one afternoon. The last one's actually a brilliant place to watch the sunset, and the ruins look different at night. When I ventured out after midnight to the ubiquitous self-service laundromats, what seemed like the entire town was sitting together, either there or by the river or at the small karaoke bars dotting the roads. You'd be hard-pressed to find anywhere else in Thailand that can soothe your soul like this, and if you're going from Bangkok to Chiang Mai the slow way, please don't hesitate to stay here for a couple of nights!

Baan Lotus is a good budget guest house in Ayuthaya. Paul the Thai owner lived and worked in America for a while, is a mellow guy, and has some great stories to tell. We really enjoyed hanging out with him and his cats. There's a big garden in front and a big pond and patio in the back, so it's a peaceful, quiet, and lovely place to relax.

Stayed in Baan Lotus for just 1 night while in Ayutthaya and we were very happy with our experience! The owner was lovely and couldn’t have offered more help, allowed us to leave our bags and hang around the following day before our night bus to Chiang Mai. The outdoor area is lovely and serene, jump in the hammock if you get a chance. Side bonus of the two adorable friendly dogs wandering around!

We found this resort by accident after the place we had originaly booked turned out to be a disaster. Its a lovely old teak building with several floors and comfortable rooms but without TV, fridge, or tea and coffee making facilities in the room, however they do provide complimentary tea or coffee downstairs. They have a nice lotus/lily pond in the back with several nice salas to sit in and enjoy your refreshments and the view of the lily flowers. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and will advise you on places to visit in the area. The room we had was comfortable with a nice firm bed and an air con. Its conveniently located about 400 metres from what the locals call " Farang Street" which has a lot of restaurants and bars. We would certainly go back the next time we visit the city.

Such a captivating place to stay. Lovely, friendly, owner. Magical fireflies, frogs and turtles in the garden/pond area, easy bike rentals and a simple breakfast. Even their dog was chilled. Loved sitting out the back in the evening in the hammocks with a cold beer and watching the wildlife, really did feel like a world away from the city outside. Would stay again.

Lovely lovely guesthouse. Old teak. Big rooms. Beautiful gardens, lily pond and pergola. Cheap. Very helpful. Well suited. Simply the best. Oh and persist with telephone as seems to not always work. We thought it was booked up, but many rooms free. Again simply the best.

I really liked it here. A traditional wooden guesthouse. We were upstairs and with the wooden shutters open there was a nice breeze in the room. The room (12) was spacious and spartan the bed and pillows firm, the bathroom was small with a hand held shower, but all was clean and tidy the water pressure is good, the fan works but is a little noisy and there is a table and chairs on the balcony. It's set way back from the road so is nice and quiet and the gardens are delightful. There is an eating/lounging area in the middle of a large lilly pond with a couple of hammocks for relaxing in and escaping the heat. It's just round the corner from 'Farang' st, where there are loads of bars, restaurants and cafes. The owner recommended an afternoon boat trip which was really great and only 200thb a person. Highly recommend.

This hotel is conveniently located, boasts a gorgeous garden with a pond, has cheap Chang beer, affordable comfortable rooms with true king size beds, and is run by the nicest lady. ONly complaints is the walls are a bit thin. In comparison to the other places we saw, this is by far the best option in Ayuthaya proper. DO NOT STAY near the train station. Cross by ferry to stay in the town itself.
