I went to Thyesza Guesthouse last month. It is located on Ambarita, a village around the Toba Lake. It is quite calm and peaceful there, out of crowd, though some tourist did a party on the night I stayed, but it didn't quite disturbed me though.

What I like the most is the view offered by the guesthouse, an incredible view. Besides, the service is also very good. And also Mrs. Theysza made a real nice meal. You can also swim on the beach if you like, the water is very clean. more

WE have visited family Theysza in JUne 08 and we had a wonderful stay at their home. The Guesthouse is newly renovated and they have a wonderful little garden directly on the sea o Lake Toba. You can take your breakfast outside or in the restaurant, where Mama Theysca cooks for the whole family. They can speak very good english.
Just phone them and they will pick you up at Tuk Tuk where the Ferry arrives, or you can take a cheap taxi (just ask somebody) and drive to Ambarita to them Everybody knpws everybody on this island.
You can live in a little Batak house (6.- Euros) or in a comfortable bedroom, please look at their homepage. You are a bit far away from the town, but a morotbycicle can be rented very cheap. more
