The Toledo Inn was a delightful place to spend a couple of days by the refreshing waters of Lake Toba, which offer a nice break from the heat of other spots in Sumatra. The inn is clean, comfortable, and unpretentious, and the large staff is still supervised by the 87-year-old matriarch of the family that owns the property. If it happens to be your birthday on your stay, she will personally present you with an "ulos," the traditional shawl of the native Batak people.
Even better than the accommodations, however, is the food in the restaurant. We had several amazing meals, which included Batak specialties, traditional Indonesian food, and some delicious fish pulled straight from the lake. This is one hotel restaurant that does not disappoint.
