Recently spent 2 nights at Totoco and would echo all the previous praises posted. We stayed in the Bamboo lodge and enjoyed the outdoor shower and wonderful views not to mention waking to the sound of monkeys. Our hosts were lovely, food excellent and staff all very nice. Well worth the bone rattling journey! more

We visited Totoco after spending one night on the Concepcion side of Ometepe (because we needed to be close to the starting point of our hike.) The roads to get to Totoco are terrible, although only slightly worse than what we experienced in other areas of Nicaragua. Our ferry at 2pm was cancelled and we had been rescheduled to a later one which arrived to Ometepe after dark... it was the most wild car ride we have ever expereinced, the roads are rough especially in dark... We really thought about quitting, but pushed ourselvevs and finally made it to Totoco. and thank god we did. This place... more

If you're going to Ometepe Island, this is the place to stay. It's centrally located (relatively speaking) in between the two volcanoes.
