Having decided to treat ourselves whilst on Ometepe we booked to stay for 3 nights at La Omaja. Big disappointment! We had struggled up a massivly steep hill to the hotel with our luggage and arrived hot and dripping in sweat. Our cabana (room) was large- having a double and two single beds but we objected to the mice/rat droppings... more

If you're in Nicaragua, you're probably gonna visit Isla Ometepe--it's one of the highlights of the country, a pristine Eden unsullied by the tourist hordes. And if you go to Ometepe, you should stay in the southern part, near Volcan Madera. And if you stay in the Southern part the BEST option, by FAR, is the Hotel Omaja. I cannot... more

We spent three incredible nights at La Omaja - earlier comments about the incredible natural beauty and the isolation of La Omaja are all true. Our cabana was very clean and comfy. There is really nothing around you here- no restaurants, bodegas, stores, hotels - nothing but incredible views and nature. The isolation does make guests dependent on the host... more

This is another rustic hotel, but we were perfectly fine with it. The favored hotel of our travel agent was Villa Paraiso, and we drove by this on the way to La Omaja. It looked packed full of people, noisy, etc, but nice, and I started to have doubts when we went to ours. However, once we got to La... more

I had high expectations and was not disappointed in the least. First of all, what an amazing value. The adobe cabanas with old tile roofs are very generous in size, with nice porches looking out over Lake Nica, comfortable beds, decent bathroom and shower, all for under $50 per night! Getting some time with the gringo owner Jamie and hearing... more

I wondered where the taxi was taking us on the bumpy, rocky road, until we arrived at Hotel La Omaja--a diamond in the rough. The cabanas on the hillside, with their porches facing the lake were a welcome sight. I consider this trip an adventure and a step back into history with hardworking, caring, friendly island people . It is... more

my wife and i stayed two nights at la omaja with mixed feelings. one problem i think is that it is so far from the ports. it took more than 90 minutes when we first arrived on ometepe from rivas to get there. and took closer to 2 hours when we returned because our vehicle had to be repaired midway... more

In my opinion this was the best spot on the island! It takes a while to get here (about an hour and a half from the ferry over some bumpy road. You NEED a 4x4 to make it here or one of the taxis will do it) but the travel was well worth it! It's easy to find, just turn... more

We booked in for two nights, but stayed for three and wished we could have spent a month! The property is situated on the more remote, and wind sheltered part of the island (note: the winds can be quite strong in other areas) . It's also involves a bit of a hike up a steep path but the views are... more

Based on several reviews posted on Trips Advisor we expected La Omaja to be remote and spartan, but clean and well run with good food and a helpful, English speaking owner. It was remote and spartan, but it was not clean or well run. The owner, Jamie, seemed pleasant, but he was not around much, so his helpfulness was limited... more
