I just returned from a 15 day tour of Peru. Included in my travels was a three day stop in Huaraz, where the tour company had booked us into the Pastoruri Hotel.
The hotel itself is very new, clean, definately upscale for its surroundings, and comfortable, with a friendly and efficient staff.
As you may know, Huaraz is not one of Peru's nicest cities, but it is the gateway to the Cordillera Blanca and the beautiful Huascaran national park - thus the reason for our stay.
Don't be alarmed when you find the hotlel located on a dumpy rundown street - we found the area to be quite safe. It is located a short taxi ride (3 soles) from the main square.
The hotel has a restaurant on he 7th floorwhich provides a great panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. We had good breakfasts every morning, that were made to order, rather than being buffet style.
For dinner, I would suggest you go elsewhere rather than the hotel restaurant - there are many good inexpensive...
