There is no doubt that Sri Lanka is suffering from a lack of tourists, particualrly the hotels in the centre of the Island; at the time of our visit most likely because of the political situation & with the credit crunch it is likely to get worse. This hotels more than most - perhaps because many tourist visit Polonnaruwa from... more

I stayed a week at Deer Park in August 2008, and was slightly concerned that I'd be disappointed having read some poor reviews on this site. I wasn't. Here's my experience. Like everywhere else in Sri Lanka at the moment, Deer Park is struggling with a lack of tourists, so is currently only operating half the rooms and cannot sustain... more

This was my favourite hotel that we stayed in on our tour of Sri Lanka (out of 6). As the hotel is situated nearer the north of the country it isn't as busy as other areas of Sri Lanka, so it felt like our own private hideaway. The rooms are beutifully decorated and feel very luxurious. It feels like it's... more

I visited the Deer park in February 2008, as part of our honeymoon having spent a week in the Maldives and wishing to return to Sri Lanka for the last time to explore nature, wildlife, and be cut off from the rest of the world. After a 5 hours journey to the hotel arriving in the hotel, we checked into... more

We came here on a tour in 2007 and loved it so much that we came back in 2008 to get married. Because we had been before the staff treated us like royalty and there was nothing they couldn't do for us. The people are amazing, warm and attentive. The room was clean with good air-con, you'll need it. The... more

We had 3 days at the Deer Park, and at first I wasn't impressed. A lot of the rooms seemed not to have been used for months and it gave the place a rather forlorn look. The first night we stayed we were two of only 8 people staying- again sitting in an empty dining room isn't much fun. However... more

We stayed at the Deer Park Hotel for 4 nights and had a fantastic time. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they made us feel at home. They were happy to adapt their service to us so that when we came home late they happily served us sandwiches in the bar... more

My wife and I stayed at The Deer Park for 5 nights in May as part of a tour of Sri Lanka for our Honeymoon. We booked with Kuoni and stayed in an Angsana Cottage. The Deer Park is a beautifully designed hotel which fits into it's surroundings cleverly. This was particularly evident when we went for a boat ride... more

Our check in when we arrived at the hotel on 26 Feb 2007 after 9.00 pm was fairly smooth. However, the reception staff were not accommodating with request from some in our party for change of rooms even though the hotel was largely empty. Some elderly guests in our party were given two storey accommodation. The welcome drink at the... more
