We paid about 60 USD per night for what is essentially a backpacker hotel -- there's no hot water and no daily room cleaning. The prices for laundry are exorbitant -- more than my wash-and-fold place in New York charges. Food and drinks are also way over market rates, and there are not many other places to eat within walking distance. It really felt like a clip joint. They also failed to advise us on check in that their credit card machine was "broken," so we had to go out of our way to find an ATM before we could check out.

There are many other options in the Sigiriya area and I wish we had explored them before booking this place based on the guidebook recommendation. more
