We stayed a couple of nights at Nirulas Hotel located in the Connaught Circus area. We considered the property because it was recommended in the Rough Guide to India and the pictures looked good on their website. We were disappointed.
The entrance to the hotel is unimposing and looks from outside like a hole in the wall; the Nirulas large restaurant operation appears to have poached a fair slice of what used to be a very nice British colonial hotel. The reception area is tiny and the few staff appeared to be overwhelmed. We were finally checked in and I got a rude shock when I was told that the rate that I had booked the room at (and had prepaid online) had been revised and that I would be charged a higher rate (about $15 more). I protested that I had an email from Nirulas confirming the rate for the booking period --- but nothing would move the cashier. I paid up.
