The manager at Pal Haveli (Jodhpur) referred me to the Karnot Mahal when he heard me mention I was en route to Jaipur and still needed a room. He said it had just opened and had some special promo rates to get started, so I let him book it. I had to phone from my mobile a couple times to get the exact location, but the desk clerk stood on the street at the roundabout and waved us in as we approached. Well! At first, I thought, "Uh-oh, what have I done?" The approach was grimy and gritty, and I thought I might have made a mistake. We drove under an arch, parked in a courtyard that needed a good pressure-wash, and went up a covered ramp tunnel that had formerly been for horses to enter the fortress/haveli. WELL!! When we got up to the top, I thought I'd entered a worm-hole and come out on the other side of the universe. It was BEAUTIFUL!
