The Fairlawn hotel is an adorably quaint place. It's chock-a-block with character. The common area's are just wonderful to spend a quiet evening in. The room was very large, but not as tastefully done as the common areas. However, the space makes up for it. Our room was also considerably clean. Our a/c didn't work too well though. The full... more

Everybody was very kind to me. More than an hotel, this is an institution. We were 3 and we stayed at a very large room, very confortaable and quiet. The food was good. It's very well located. The staff is very discret and efficient. If you're lookin for something different and genuine, try this place. more

What a fantastic place to stay! OK if you want luxury, forget it but then hopefully you wouldn't have come here for that in the first place. Character and Charm are the order of the day here. The rooms are basic but clean and tidy. The breakfast is more than adequate and the bar is a hive of activity in... more

While I rate the Fairlawn at 3 stars out of 5, I give it that rating because from a comfort, luxury, friendliness and price perpsective...that's the right rating to give it. It may actually be on the lower end of that 3 star scale as several of the rooms are in need of refurbishing, the bathooms are old, the bed's... more

I loved this place because it has a long history. Since 1783 Fairlawn is standing on the junction of Madge Lane and Sudder Street. During the Second World War it was requisitioned for Canadian airforce personnel and for two years was known as "Canada House". This is quite a charming place, nice people. The garden is a wonderful place to... more

I would say good for one trip-- the first manager we met at the desk was unfriendly but later desk staff were kind and helpful. Food was not so exciting and everything was a bit worn. Children loved all the knick-knacks though and is in a convenient location. Not for the business traveller. more

I stayed in November 2002 because my parents had stayed there 35 years earlier and it was a tradition thing. The rooms were not great however it was th building, furniture and endless pictures on the walls that were absolutely fasinating. It was like stepping back in time and everything my parents told me to look out for were still... more

We stayed at the Fairlawn Hotel from the 20th - 22nd July 2007. Our party consisted of two adults and two small children. Right from the moment we checked in we felt completely at home. We had arrived by train following a 24 hour run from Darjeeling. We were able to check in straightaway at 0840hrs, which was great. Once... more

Well if you read the other reviews you can see a stay at the Fairlawn polarises into those who loved the experience and those who hated it. I loved it, but then again I didnt go to India for 5 star service which reminiscent of hotels back home in the West. I went to India to experience India and all... more
