Decent place to stay boutique style. Stopped for one night. Good sized room - Tantrayana. Basic breakfast as we were leaving early and informed the reception the night before. Bathroom needs a bit of cleaning. Hotel not very difficult to reach. Good experience. Will go again.

Nice boutique style hotel. Good for a short stop over. Room small but nice. Bathroom dated. Breakfast TERRIBLE. Taxis cannot find this hotel or will not take you directly to front door but hotel is on a nice clean street and feels safe.

Yes the guest house is nicely decorated with object d'art but this alone does not warrant the price (we stayed in similarly decorated guest house in Varkala, Kerala for half the price). As in many Indian facilities the young staff try their best with limited English but we found the manager a bit arrogant. For example he said we could... More

We stayed at Bodhi Tree for five nights at Mahayana Suite, Kalachackra and Yogacara. The all guesthouse is a living museum, rich in indian handcrafts like beautiful statues of Buddha and hindu gods. Every detail has been well-groomed and well-finished in an inconcivable way. Each room is furnished amazingly and themed like rural india or contemporary india. The staff is... More

It's a pretty and an un-Indian place, very European, talking about the interior design now. It's locked behind a gate so you'll definitely feel safe. And the staff will go out and fetch whatever you need, if you need anything. It's very small, but it makes it all more worth it. You feel as if you're taken care of. The... More

A very cosy and friendly place. Rooms with excellent decoration and the real aroma of India. Everything was so clean and comfortable. We kept our valliables in sight even there is a safe box and we did not miss a thing. The manager knows very good English and he kept smilling even we are such a pain with our guestions.... More

Pros: - Very small, cozy and nice interiors - Art Gallery - Cute unique rooms Cons: - Terribly disrespectful and inhospitable management - Poor reservation management - Misleading website descriptions - Overpriced car service As mentioned by the other reviewers, the Bodhi Tree does have cute interiors. It is not an oasis or a monastery of art, but it does... More

We read the very positive review of Bodhi Tree in the New York Times and we were excited because Calcutta doesn't offer a lot of great hotel options for families except at the 5-star, $350 a night range. (And that's why I'm giving this place an Average rating not Poor, because the choices are really limited). We were severely disappointed,... More

I stayed at Bodhi Tree for two nights in the middle of December 2012. Overall my experience was very satisfactory and I would recommend the guest house without any hesitation. I was in Calcutta to attend a marriage and after the chaotic hustle bustle of a lovely Bengali wedding, I needed a quiet place as my base, - having chosen... More

This guesthouse is a bit out of the way, without much to do in the locality, however the rooms are amazing and very comfortable. The metro is 10 minutes walk, and provides easy access to the city, it can be crowded during rush hour. When we arrived we were made welcome and shown to our room. The staff are a... More
