Driving through La Fortuna, I was preparing myself for the worst. Many tired looking motels lined the road near the town, and I wasn't certain that we wouldn't end up in one. The Gran Arenal Hotel is a great option if you want to go to La Fortuna and Arenal volcano area. It's a place where you can find an excellent room for sleeping. I spent 5 days here, driving from Sarapiqui. The drive took about 2 hours. The hotel is about 1 KM from the downtown La Fortuna. However, to get there, you have to get a taxi or drive because the road is all gravel and not good for pedestrians, especially at night. The cost - $88/nite decent. The staff - awesome.... more
