The service was great from the teenage son of the owner, we couldn't have asked for better service from him, just more service from the absent staff. The room was damp and smelled of mold and mildew and never dried out. There were bugs through out the entire hotel. Yes we were in the middle of a jungle and the... more

Stayed a few nites in Aug 08. Got home just in time for a hurricane but when things got better we reflected on our vacation at Tilawa and flamingo beach. We like Tilawa so much we are going back in August this year. The views are truly beautiful morning and evening. Monkeys and birds can get noisy but hey its... more

We stayed at the Tilawa Dec of 2008, and had a great time! The wind was decent for windsurfing 2 of the 3 days, and they had all the gear we needed- plus got to hang with the very nice expat who owns the gear rental shop (lots of stories!) he's just down the hill from the hotel- very convenient... more

We stayed at the Tilawa for a one night stop over point on our way to Arenal after an evening arrival at the airport in Liberia because it seemed to be an ideal location for that purpose. From that perspective the Tilawa fit our needs perfectly. The first point to note about our stay is that it was New Year's... more

I would say that the staff of Hotel Tilawa were polite and entertaining. We were instantly greeted by a small local woman who took the time to show us around, grab us a drink, and teach us a little spanish. Other than that, the place left much to be desired. The meals were decent, but you are only presented with... more

I went to Costa Rica with a group of people that were there to stay and do community service in the country. It just so happened that the mother of the family I was staying with worked at Hotel Tilawa, she brought be there twice for two different day trips. Over All I thinkt aht the hotel was clean, fun,... more

Great place to stay. Good hiking around the hotel, organic vegetable garden on the hotel grounds, great food, very helpful, informative staff. Hot tub, clean pool, awesome views of the lake and volcanoes. I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. Lots of monkeys and wildlife in a beautiful, tranquil setting. more

Okay, it's not the most elegant place that you'll stay in, but if you want to have a real experience with the country and it's people, then this is the place to be. This hotel made a difference in my family's vacation because it is authentic and not some generic resort. We are used to staying at five star hotels,... more

The Hotel Tilawa was a decent place to stay, but nothing all that special. If you are into windsurfing, it is a good place to stay since there is a rental place associated with the hotel, but there is a better rental place about 20 minutes down the road with better equipment. If you are looking for a low volume... more

I stayed at the Hotel Tilawa for 3 nights with some friends and found the staff to be extremely friendly and accomodating but the property definitley left a lot to be desired. I think I was initially fooled by the pictures on the website. We went in the dry season and it rained every day and was cold. The pool... more
