My wife and I stayed at Selva Verde for 3 nights as part of an independent birding tour of Costa Rica. We stayed in one of the little cabins a few hundred yards from the main lodge. These have very welcome air conditioning and the walk is not far. There is a lit and covered walkway the whole distance except... more

Thoroughly enjoyed the rooms. If you are into air conditioned luxury, this is probably not for you. But the large screen windows and screened skylights allowed plenty of airflow through our room. The fresh air and the sounds of the rainforest (and pouring rain) were wonderful! It felt like you were camping but much more comfortable (well the beds were... more

My family of five stayed in Selva Verde for 3 nights in early August and it was one of the highlights of the trip. For $110, Selva Verde had us picked up at SJO when we arrived and transfered to the Lodge. It was the rainy season in the rain forest, so guess what? It rained....a torrential downpour actually. This... more

1. We signed up for the chocolate tour at Tirimbina (on the list of "other area attractions" on SV's website). It was great! You hike through the rain forest a bit ( be sure to wear closed shoes), stop at a place where the various steps of making chocolate are demonstrated, and get to do a bit of tasting. The... more

My husband and I stayed here for one night as part of the ecoscapes highlights tour - overnight option. It was very quiet and peaceful. We loved the large porch underneath the restaurant. We had the bartender, Jeraldo, all to ourselves, and also visited with Alexander, one of the nature guides. It's very peaceful right there by the river. Nature... more

We stayed at Selva Verde lodge for 3 nights. There were things we really, really liked about this place...and things we really, really didn't like. The positives: Our quad room was terrific for a family of 4. We had plenty of space, loved looking out the windows into the tree tops, and fully enjoyed the hammock hanging outside the door.... more

My husband and I (both in our early 30's) stayed at Selva Verde for three nights. We really liked this lodge. It took us about 3.5 hours from the San Jose airport, traveling up a winding mountain road at a reduced speed. We had room 45 which is one of two rooms available that face the Sarapiqui River. Our room... more

We stayed at Selva Verde for only one night, but really enjoyed it. It's an oasis of rainforest in the midst of a mostly agricultural area. The dark-wood rooms built on stilts in the midst of the forest felt very remote. One of our party spent 90 minutes lying in the hammock outside his room, just marveling at the wildlife... more

Selva Verde Lodge was our favorite place on our recent Costa Rica honeymoon. The rainforest was right outside our room, and we had a nearby troop of howler monkeys that increased the "inside the jungle" feel. The room was very clean and comfortable, and they sent us a tray of fresh fruit when we arrived. We had the birding package,... more

We stayed in Selva Verde for one night in January to experience some of the plants and animals of the Sarapiqui area. The lodge is rustic, which is what we expected. It was pretty much taken over by a group from Elderhostel. They looked like they were having a good time. Food was good by Costa Rican standards, and it... more
