You can't go wrong if you choose to stay at the Playa Negra Guesthouse in Cahuita. Greg and Michel are charming and welcoming hosts - very helpful with restaurant suggestions, etc. Our adorable, spacious, comfortable well equipped cottage was surrounded by a truly lovely garden, teaming with flowers and birds. We saw howler monkeys, a sloth and iguana in the... more

Spent an all-too-short 4 nights at Playa Negra and it was wonderful - clean, beautiful, lovely pool, great beach within yards, banana pancakes for breakfast at Brigid's next door and very peaceful (except for the howler monkeys, but their morning chorus was always worth hearing). Greg and Michel couldn't have been nicer and even lent us umbrellas when it rained.... more

Our stay at Playa Negra Guesthouse was completely relaxing and pleasurable. Our hosts, Greg and Michel, were kind, helpful and solicitous. The rooms were very attractive, well kept and comfortable. The grounds were gorgeous with wonderful palms, banana fans, hibiscus, bamboo stands and orchids. An especially welcome amenity was the small swimming pool; after hiking, snorkeling or sea-swimming it was... more

My husband and I made last-minute plans to spend a long weekend in Cahuita for both business & leisure purposes. Of course, we wanted to stay once again (our 3rd time) at Playa Negra Guesthouse. Luckily, Greg & Michel were able to accomodate us on short notice. It was delightful as always...comfortable & very clean room, beautiful grounds, located across... more

We decided to stay in Cahiuta over Puerto Viejo as it sounded more laid back and less of a party town so stayed for 4 nights with my wife in August 2009, The Guesthouse is spotless. Perfectly manicured gardens, exceptionally clean and well furnished rooms. Perfectly priced for location and standard. Nice friendly owner Greg...1min walk to the Beach. 15min walk... more

My little girl called our yellow cottage at the back of the property the sunset cottage and it was a really lovely place to stay. Not going to repeat what has already been said - other than to add that if you are travelling with young kids this is a perfect place to stay. We loved the pool which had... more

The guesthouse is a little treasure, the owners welcoming and thoughtful. We were 2 families traveling with young children and the bungalows were perfect for us. The bungalows are typical of the Caribbean region, well thaught out, well equiped with a full kitchen, 2 bedrooms and very generous bathrooms. Cahuita is still a sleepy town compared to its better known... more

I lived in Costa Rica for many years and have always loved the Atlantic coast of the country. Until Playa Negra Guesthouse I never had any place decent to stay. I couldn't believe the beauty of the grounds and the guest cottages (definitely stay in one of them!). I thought for sure the people on Trip Advisor were exaggerating...they weren't... more
