Lovely hotel, loads of nature and wildlife in the hotel garden. Bar staff were the best. Rooms were very basic, just one sheet. The environment is just really damp (do not bring any books :-)). Relaxingin pool and bar after excursions is the only option. Food in buffet form at set times was not that bad (but all days the... more

Ditto everything said in the review below. Our family of 4 adults LOVED everything about this place - the grounds had everything: monkeys, sloths, pineapple bushes, avacado trees, sugar cane, tons of flowers. We enjoyed a little nap in the hammocks near the canal. The 6AM canal tour is worth the early morning rise. Food was great and plentiful (7:30... more

We had an absolutely great 3 days, 2 night at Mawamba Lodge. We were picked up day 1 at our San Jose hotel by bus with are tour guide and then traveled 3 hours by bus with a breakfast stop on the way and then 2 hour boat ride through the Tortuguero canals to Mawamba. Mawamba has a great location... more

Really enjoyed our two nights at Mawamba Lodge as part of our tour of Costa Rica. The rooms are pretty basic wooden affairs with twin beds but are comfortable and had good bathroom facilites. And anyway you won't be spending much time in your room as you will almost certainly be out on the water checking out the abundant wildlife.... more

We spend a great time at Mawamba Lodge because the guide that did the tours with us was just oustanding. Stayed 2 nights there. The hotel is very basic and definitely lower quality that they claim. The pool is nice, the location of the hotel is also good. The food is poor. You feel like a pupil that is on... more

On the way to the Mawamba Lodge we encountered our first real setback during our Costa Rica trip. After the first nice, quiet days in Puerto Viejo we changed from the Interbus transport system to "group transport", encountering our party for the next 2 days. One really has to internalise that if a package is booked from one of the... more

We loved it!!!!! Henry, our guide, was so knowledgable and it was clear he loved everything about the area. The food was good, the cabins were clean altho they could have used just a little more lighting. could'nt see to read or do makeup. not that you could keep makeup on it was very hot and steamy. The resort was... more

Stayed here for two nights, the longest two nights of my life! Beautiful location! Ocean ( you cannot swim here, SHARKS!) right behind my room , canal in front.. Staff was nice... Rooms.. hummm.. Bed felt like a lumpy box spring. Bugs everywhere! I was bitten on my face by a spider in my bed. I slept with a flashlight... more

This is not a boutique, luxury hotel. It is a very solid hotel that does exactly what it sets out to do very well - serving tour groups who come for a fairly fixed amount of time (2 nights) and whose days are pretty much full. What I mean by that is simple but clean rooms (no aircon, but wasn't... more
