no locks, construction zone, and wanted to charge us 100US/night. it is also too far from MAl Pais/Santa Teresa intersection. All hotels there are "secluded" enough. Blue Jay was a very very long walk from where the bus drops you off. more

We loved our stay at the Blue Jay Lodge. We looked into some hotels in the area at the last minute and found the price at the Blue Jay totally reasonable. As long as you know that this is not a "resort" type place and you have to walk up a hill to get to your bungalow, then you'll be fine. Most of this place's attractions have been commented on but if you plan on staying in Mal Pais...stay here. A great price on and off-season. Great breakfasts in the morning (with excellent coffee). My husband & I spent several glorious days at the Blue Jay Lodge in April, 2003. We loved our hut!! Make sure you ask for one high up. We spent many hours lying in the hammocks on our porch.
