What a beautiful hotel! We stayed here only one night but would have liked to stay longer. It's perched in the hills of Monteverde. The rooms are clean and very well appointed. We had 2 beds and the bathroom was marble! The view was absolutely spectacular from our patio. There's a great little bar / cafe where the rooms are... more

The hotel staff greeted us with delicious drinks and were all super nice and friendly. We began wandering off by ourselves and everywhere we went - everything was well-groomed and cared for. Our room was HUGE - clean, VERY VERY CLEAN, and we never needed AC. The temperature here was perfect. The hotel is only a $1000 colones (roughly $1.80USD)... more

The trip to Monte Verde almost required a kidney transplant. The roads are not paved because the hotels do not want people to make a day trip, rather they want you to stay overnight. Straight up over rocks for 2 hours! The hotel itself is on a steep hill and does have great views. That's the one positive. The food... more

Our travel agent booked this hotel, we had no idea that it was the "fancy one" in town. This is a really nice place. Beautiful views, nice rooms. But, as other people mention, it is on a huge hill, so you need a shuttle to take you back and forth. I wouldn't mind, but we were consistently late to everything... more

The hotel is a series of buildings built into a steep mountainside. I see that some reviewers have complained about the trek from the reception area to their room, but there are shuttles. Our room, in the 400 building, had breathtaking views. I viewed the steep trek as the price paid for staying in a mountainous area with a fabulous... more

I was really hoping that the negative reviews I read were from picky people, but our stay was less than satisfactory for the price we paid compared to the other hotels we stayed in around the country. First off, when we got there it was hard to find the reception desk. The we took the shuttle up the hill to... more

The hotel was exquisite. The staff was super friendly and helpful in trying to help us track down our lost baggage. The room was very clean and so nice and they welcomed us with a free bottle of wine on the bed which we drank while relaxing one night in our in room jacuzzi. The hotel was the best stay... more

El Establo was 1 of 5 hotels that we stayed at in Costa Rica and the most lacking. It is over sized, over priced and just the staff are just not friendly. The hotel is a sprawling arrangement of buildings up the side of a mountain. My room was in a building the furthest away, the 900's, it took 15... more

We stayed at the El Estable for two nights at the end of May because it was available and was recommended in several travel guides (Frommer's and Fodor's). Although the physical plant seems to be upscale and modern, we experienced too many negative incidents to compensate for the appearance and the cost. Poor service at El Establo in Monteverde: late... more

When our tour guide in the previous town heard we were headed to El Establo next, he couldn't rave enough about the place. It's apparently quite well known and loved by locals who've had the chance to stay here. The hotel is situated on a very, very steep hill. Most people who stay here will need to rely on the... more
