This hotel is absolute heaven. I cannot see how anyone can fault it. It is far superior to Holiday Inns in the UK. It reeked of class and luxury. I had come from Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, where I had stayed in what amounted to a bug-filled shed. So when I arrived here it was wonderful. I literally jumped for... more
I stayed at this hotel over 5 years ago and based on that experience never went back. However, I made an exception last February and was pleasantly surprised. The whole place has been re-done. The rooms are nicely appointed, spacious enough, and comfortable--up to international Holiday Inn standards. The staff are very pleasant and informed. There's on on-site travel agency/tour... more
We checked in to a rude and incompetent staff. Later we brought a local friend to the hotel and they charged us 60 dollars to bring the person to our suite. I woke up the next morning with bug bites on my legs... I reported this to the staff, they were rude...... We all checked out and moved to another... more
Stayed here at the tail end of a Caravan tour. The hotel is in a very central part of San Jose, easy walking distance to Central Market, museums and other tourist attractions. The room was spacious and clean. Overall, the hotel has no character, but it was more than adequate for the one night stay. more
We were in San Jose, Costa Rica the end of November. The hotel staff was courteous, helpful and beyond accommodating. They spoke English fluently and were more than happy to help in any and every request that we had: and we had many! There was a travel agency on the lobby floor who arranged a trip to El Arenal (volcano)... more
We were at the Aurola at the beginning and end of a Caravan Tour, and it was perfectly adequate. It is in a good location across from a small park and only a short walk to the center of the city. The food and service in the buffet restaurant were good, and the tour farewell dinner in the restaurant on... more
I stayed at the Aurola for 18 nights in February and I have to say, as hotels go, this is as good as it gets. Sure, the facilities were great, rooms comfortable, helpful staff and a really decent location, but it was the whole experience of staying there that made it good. You get a feel of things after such... more
As some previous reviewers have stated, San Jose is a dirty depressing city and I wouldn't recommend staying longer than neccessary. The Aurola is centrally located which is good but it also means you will see prostitutes outside the hotel and around the foyer if it is raining. Not a problem to me. We did flash our Gold Priorityclub card... more
We stayed here with our Caravan tour at the beginning and end of our trip and really liked this beautiful hotel. The lobby staff are always busy, but helpful and accommodating. The food here is excellent at both the cafe and restaurant, and the cafe and restaurant waitstaff are very gracious people. The rooms are very nice and clean and... more
