The hotel staff is wonderful. The owners are always around and the wife, Sylvia speaks perfect english. The hotel is beautifully furnished. And my room large and had huge windows. The location is far enough away from the center of downtown San Jose-but close enough to walk to the casnios, museums, parks and shopping. There is a train that went... more

We recently stayed 4 nights in this hotel, at the start of a 6 week trip around Costa Rica. We looked around quite a few hotels in San Jose and were definite we chose the best one! This hotel should be much higher up the list than it is! We stayed in Mariposa, the big room at the back of... more

If you are looking for a luxury hotel or the conformity of a chain hotel (where you could just as easily be in Cleveland as Costa Rica), then this is not your place. This hotel is clean, charming and reasonably-priced. My fiance and I don't spend a lot of time in any hotel when we're traveling, we prefer to be... more

Our group stayed in the Magnolia room. It was very roomy! It was very nice! The shower did not have hot water and it is next to a big window, but the window is frosted. The staff was helpful. There is an office with 1 computer. The breakfast was small (tea, orange juice, fruit, toast). We did not notice the... more

I regularly travel to San Jose CR and I’ve been to la Posada del Museo a few times. I’ve always been more than satisfied and in fact I will go back within a few weeks. This colonial type hotel is decorated with a lot of taste with wooden floors or colonial tiles and bath rooms are simple and super nice(unless... more

We thought this was a very nice section of town, and appreciated the informative suggestions of the manager as to restaurants, places to visit in Costa Rica and tourist sights in San Jose. The rooms were very clean, the train did not bother us at all, and the prices were fair. I would definitely stay again if the opportunity arose. more

I stayed one night at the magnolia room. It's a great place to stay if you intend to visit the Museo Nacional, as it's right across the street. The house is very historic feeling with excellent old furniture. Unfortunately, the beds are uncomfortable, traffic noise is an issue, and graffiti covers many of the cool old buildings in the area... more

This review is not for the hotel itself, but for the small café (Café La Posada) that it owns. Located right next door, the café appears quaint and has a great location. The positives stop there. In a city where an iced tea costs about c400 (less than $1), this café claims to charge c850 with sales tax included. We... more

Wonderful hotel located in the heart of the city. Yes, the train does pass right next to the hotel but given how small the city is, you are going to hear the dang thing any place you are staying. The staff is extremely professional: they answer emails promptly and help in any way possible. We had a few minor emergencies... more

We stayed here on a Sunday, when presumably the trains don't start running at 6.30am, when we returned to this overpriced hotel we realised our mistake and having to face a 24 hour journey the next day checked into the hotel Balmoral up the street, same price, nicer rooms and QUIET. The Posada del Museo aggressively insisted that we pay... more
