We spent our first night in Alaska at Chugatch National Forest in the Bird Creek Campground just outside of Girdwood. It was a small campground located just off the Seward Highway. We were all tired after traveling for some 20 hours. We got up at 3AM in Philadelphia and spent the time getting on and off of airplanes, arrangeing to rent a motor home and traveling here. This was a great place to stop although the road to was full of humongous pot holes. We thought our RV was going to be swallowed in these massive holes. We found a place to park and hit the sack. I tried to start a fire but couldn't find and dry kindling. I met a great guy who gave me dry wood but after a few attempts I gave up.
The next morning we stopped at The Alyeska Resort with the intent of taking a tram ride to the top of the mountain. Unfortunately the mountain was shrouded with clouds and the visibility was poor so we passed on the trip. The cost was $16 per head. The hotel was gorgeous. The...
