This is a unique lodge due to its location. It is not near Glennallen although the mailing address confuses travelers because the McCarthy/Kennicott area receives twice a week mail via light aircraft from Glennallen. As the crow flies, Glennallen is over a 100 miles to the west. The lodge is located in the middle of the nation’s largest National Park... more

We had a wonderful stay for one night at the Main Lodge. Remember Kennicott Glacier Lodge is far away from "civilization" and so you will find a first class hotel from outside but from inside it is due to the location very rustic. Although the rooms were small they are clean and comfortable. Showers and toilets are down the hall... more

We stayed at the lodge for three nights July 4-8. We were in the annex on the second floor in a large room with two comfortable queen beds. We had been to Kennicott 8 years prior but stayed in McCarthy. We much preferred Kennicott Glacier Lodge because we could spend more time around the old mine buildings. We enjoyed the... more

Usually I have been guided well by the reviews on Tripadvisor, but when it comes to the Kennicott Lodge, don't be mislead. At a nightly rate of $160, I expected at least some amenities. I found very little redeeming at this lodging. First, I knew that the rooms would be simple and that there would be a rustic flavor to... more

This was possibly the highlight to our trip in June 2009. We stayed in Kennicott Glacier Lodge from June 30, 2009 until July 2, 2009. After taking almost three hours to reach Kennicott via the two-laned road, we were delightfully surprised at the lodge. We stayed in the main lodge and were in room 26. The room had two little... more

The other reviews give a good overall picture of this delightful remote location. We stayed in the new annexe with private facilities. The room was on the top floor-the lower floors may be different.Although the room itself was huge, the bathroom was minimal with a small shower. There was almost no furniture except two huge beds and a large chest of drawers. June... more

Without doubt the highlight of our time in Alaska. Stating off with the unique way of arriving - via strip plane - this is a place like no other. The food was some of the best I've ever had anywhere. The way everyone sits together is brilliant. The staff could not have been more helpful. And it has to have... more

The only place to stay in Kennicott-McCarthy, in my opinion. And the new South Wing with the private baths is the only place to stay at the Lodge. The South rooms were large, with two double beds but still lots of space. Furnishings were sparse but not uncomfortable. No hairdryers in the rooms, but they have some at the front... more

We chose to stay here only one night on our whirlwind trip of alaska and it was a great place. We chose to fly into this lodge. The lodge will pick you up at the airstrip. Otherwise you have to drive this awful road for 4 hours going 20 miles per hour. The lodge was rustic but had the cleanest... more

Stayed two nights during a visit to McCarthey/Kennicott in the heart of Wrangell-St. Elias NP. Wonderful accommodations for such a remote location, and way above average from the places I've stayed inside National Parks across the western US. Location right in the mix of buildings that make up the Kennicott Mill ghost town, which is five miles from McCarthey. Food... more
