We used this as a base to explore Wrangell St. Elias National Park - located about 15 miles east of this motel/roadhouse. The two bedroom family suite was $149 per night - a reasonable rate. The room had sat TV, coffee maker, heater etc, but the owners demonstrate everything that is wrong with independent cheap owner mentalities. They hadn't changed the water filters in who knows how long, so the water reeked of sulphur to the point of being unbearable when you showered. The windows had no dark shades, but faced the sun at night (which doesn't set much). The pillows were 50 years old, the towels older, the floor moldy around the shower stall, the bed blankets/linens ancient, the furnishings iffy (broken leg on one chair / dusty fabrics). The area around the facilities was littered with 'stuff' (broken wooden things / wires / drums / etc). Put a little time and effort into it, modernize, replace linens/beddings with newer, provide more than 1 pillow per bed, put dark curtains on... more
