When I saw that other preposterous review, I simply had to knock it off the top! The Tutka Bay Lodge was amazing and a highlight of our Alaska trip. John and Nelda couldn't have been nicer in accomodating our diverse needs. We were a group of nine people: my husband and I, our three boys ages 17, 15 and 10... more

Our experience at Tutka Bay Wilderness Lodge was terrific. The setting was breath taking. The owners, John and Nelda, were especially friendly and helpful. They were able to arrange a fishing trip and a bear viewing trip for us at the last minute. Both trips were unforgettable adventures! We, also, kayaked and saw cute sea otters, and we hiked a pretty... more

Wife and I had a wonderful week at the Tutka Bay Wilderness Lodge. This was part of our third trip to Alaska, and we have stayed at many lodges around the world as a part of our passion for fishing. Homer is, of course, one of the world-class venues for salt water fishing for halibut, salmon and reef fish, but... more

I'm sitting at Tutka Bay Wilderness Lodge as I type this review. I was concerned that normal life would take precedence after I arrived home and a review would fall by the wayside. Currently, I can see the lagoon, mountains, an eagle soaring and an otter resting in the water securely wrapped in kelp. (That's how otters rest.) Tutka Bay... more

The setting was breathtaking. Jon, Nelda and the staff provided warm hospitality for our visit to Tutka Bay to celebrate our 25th anniversary. This was our first visit to Alaska, and we learned a great deal from our hosts about the history of the state and the general area. We enjoyed the hiking and sea kayaking. more

Our visit to Tutka Bay had many highlights and most especially the charming hosts, Jon and Nelda, who offer great food and a high level of comfort in a beautiful setting. Be sure and have Nelda tell you about the Christmas poster. We had a cabin that is shown in one of the posted photos. We thought it was pretty... more

We just finished our stay at Tutka Bay Lodge and we needed to write to you to rave about this extraordinary lodge in a magical setting off Homer, Alaska. Tutka offers kayaking, boating, hiking, sauna, jacuzzi and even ATV tours. The food, prepared by a friendly and professional staff, was exquisite. The real gems that define Tutka, however, are its... more

This was our second visit to Tutka Bay. The location is fabulous. When we arrived a Bald Eagle circled over us and landed on a nearby tree. We were greeted like dear friends and treated as such for our entire stay. The food was fabulous with great attention paid to presetation whether it was a sack lunch or a wonderful... more

Our family, including 2 teenage grandsons have just returned from the lodge. From the time Jon met us on the dock the hospitality was wonderful I felt like we had been welcomed to their home and in reality we were. The staff was so friendly and informative about their past diverse travel experiences. The food was excellent and the anticipation... more

Husband and I visited for 4 days 3 nights. We knew what we were getting into when we signed up (799 per night) and we were anticipating "the best". What we found was a remarkable piece of land, and the buildings and work they have done to the property is admirable. However the accommodations, service and food were not up... more

Management response from
TutkaBayLodge, owner

We are saddened that expectations were not met for these guests. However, some misstatements were made and warrant mentioning. 1. For 25 years we have supplied soap and shampoo for each guest unit. For 2008, we added hand lotion to the amenities provided. 2. Guests are given high quality, custom-imprinted, re-usable water bottles (Platypus brand collapsible water bottles were used...
