One thing you should know about Juneau is that the cruise lines own a good deal of the town, so when possible, buy local, as the locals don't benefit much from the businesses that are cruise line owned, and the mark-up on what is sold is incredibly high for what you get - typical tourist trap stuff. I mention this... more

Giving two stars instead of one only because we received a good price and the hotel is in a handy location, but poor quality will keep us from returning to this hotel. The Westmark Baranof is in an old historical building so it is okay that the room was very small. That is to be expected in historical buildings unless... more

This hotel likes to market itself as one of Juneau's premier hotels, and its anything but. I have no complaints about about the wonderful staff, service, location, upkeep, or cleanliness of the establishment, but the rooms themselves are best described as nonsensical. First, the layout of the rooms consists of a small space, with an overly large bed, storage bench,... more

We stayed two nights, Sept 1 and Sept 4. While there were some paint nicks and rug stains, overall the rooms were clean, well furnished and very comfortable. Both nights were very quiet and we did not experience the noise some guests are reporting. Perhaps they had the misfortune of being there when a rowdy crowd was present. That can... more

A lady friend and I spent a week at the Baranhof July 1-July 7. The hotel was clean and neat. Staff were friendly, warm and helpful from check-in to check-out. As a Juneau descendant, I was attending the Juneau International Family Reunion, where the hotel was our "home base". Service was excellent at the reception in the Banquet Room as... more

First of all, this is in "the historic" downtown, which is a fun place to stay. I stayed in this hotel for two nights (one before and one after my ferry trip down the inside passage). I went back the second night only because I had a non-refundable "deal" through Priceline. The hotel rooms need lots of refurbishment: the cheap... more

Great location, good cafe, clean rooms. Thin walls, staff a bit flightly. Overall an OK hotel, it's just surprising that it's the nicest hotel in Juneau since it's just ok. more

Wife and I stayed May 15-22, 2009. The photo you see on the site is NOT the one in Juneau. Overall, motel is "OK," but is a bit outdated, the walls are thin, and the front desk staff is not too helpful. The location is within easy walking distance to all shopping, bars, and mainstreet, but otherwise a lot of... more

I wish this hoter were better. It's a Juneau landmark with a fine location and a decent restaurant, but the rooms are tired and drab. During my stay there was no hot water in the morning, every time another guest closed a door I could hear it, and the bathroom was tiny and cramped. It's the sort ofplace you try... more

First let me say that I am from Alaska. I understand that Juneau is not the center of the known universe. I travel a lot from the bush to Anchorage and I think I have been spoiled staying in nice hotels in Anchorage such as the Homewood, Residence or the Dimond. About once a year I travel to juneau. First... more
