The Alaskan Hotel is the oldest operating hotel in Southeast Alaska, opening on Tuesday, September 16, 1913. The Alaskan Hotel isn't close to the center of Juneau, it IS the middle of Juneau; the Alaskan also offers the best prices of any hotel in town. The hotel is an excellent architectural example of transitional change between 19th and 20th century, and was built in the late Victorian Queen Anne style. The Alaskan Hotel was placed on the National Register of Historic Places October 25, 1978. more » « less

Stayed there for 3 nights. Be careful when choosing your rooms! The hotel is on the Alaskan Bar, a charming place to have a drink while a band is playing. The rooms in the lower floors will be very noisy! We stayed in the 2nd floor and it was ok. Little rooms, old furniture but a decent bathroom. more

I lived in Juneau many years ago and know that hotels in Alaska are sometimes not as elegant or well-maintained as those in the lower 48. However, the Alaskan Hotel is well below the average. It is basically a low-income hotel with, it appears, many people living there on a more long-term basis. I knowingly reserved 2 rooms ($60 each)... more

We were a school group if 12 people. We were on two different floors, and the owner did his best to meet our needs. It was not quite what we thought it would be. However, I do not think it would be a good place for students. I would stay there on my own though. After the first few days,... more

This hotel is indeed charming, but it is also dirty, noisy, and beat up. You will hear everything from adjacent rooms, doors slamming, and street noise from the ever present local drunks. Of a 4 night stay, I had maid service once and water hot enough for a shower twice. A solid night's sleep is not possible. more

Ok so we did have a little confusion upon checking in however it was booked by a previous employee. Any business owner knows you can't have your business judged by a bad apple. Although inconvenient in the beginning, the manager did right by us. My boyfriend is a local, flying for a helicopter company during the tourist season. I have... more

This hotel was a bad experience. I stayed just one night at the beginnig of march. My room was not heated (it was snowing outside), and the guy at the reception desk was so absorbed by his computer game that he would give less than a minimal service. It was not very clean, someone had started to do some plastering... more

The Alaskan Hotel is one of the most authentic, charming, and "real" places I have ever visited. It was built almost a hundred years ago, or so I was told by a nice gentleman at the front desk. There is also a book written about it by the owner, whom I didn't meet. In my opinion, just the building deserves... more

First time experience in Alaska, was spent in The Alaskan. As one person wrote it is not a place for everyone. If you are looking for amazing accomadations, this is not a hotel for you. But, the locating is perfect. All the bars are a stumbling distance away, and I mean as far as the Viking which is about 100... more

The Alaskan hotel is a disaster. I have stayed at many 100+ year old hotels and B&B's, hostels all over the world so I've had a pretty wide range of hospitality experience. The old hotel really needs new owners that would rennovate the place properly. Our room had filthy carpets, shoeprints on the sheets, funky odors and a bedspread that... more

We had a group of four guys that needed a place for our last few days in Juneau. The Alaskan has the coolest bar in town, so it was a very convenient place to stay. The rooms were clean and comfortable, but not as nice as what you would find with a major chain hotel. The service was good. There... more
