We spent one week in June 2008 at the Port Lions Lodge on beautiful Kodiak Island Alaska. Steve and Peggy Andresen were warm, wonderful hosts/owners who had a way of making everyone feel like old friends. The lodge was very clean and comfortable and the food fantastic! The rooms were small and basic, but cozy with private bath. The view from the common living area was a panorama of water, mountains and snow--gorgeous. The lodge is next to a very long causeway that made for a great after-dinner walk. Peggy had a map of hiking trails if one was so inclined and apparently there is a waterfall where the famous Kodiak Island bears can be seen fishing. We started out one day and saw such fresh bear “sign” that we decided not to chance an up close and personal encounter!
Each day after a 7:00AM home-made breakfast, we boarded the boats...
