My boyfriend and I took a trip around Alaska, camping the entire way for a month. We accidentally stumbled upon this campground and it was our favorite by far! The host is a charming woman who has built a communal firepit and supplies all of the wood and seating. It provides a great opportunity to meet fellow travelers. She has several cabins and RV hookups, and while she does not have set tent sites set up yet, she allows campers to choose their own. We found a secluded spot at the base of a stream. It was perfect! The two showers have built-in heaters that you can turn on if the night is chilly. It is only about a ten-minute drive from Whittier, where you can take cruises of Prince William Sound. I definitely recommend this campground to anyone! more

If you like camping but didn't bring your tent and want a nice place to stay, the Portage Cove Campground is the place for you! We stayed in one of their 4 cabins which was so cozy and cute with the best bed ever! The views are spectacular and you are minutes away from hiking or going on a day cruise out of Whittier to Prince William sound (I recommend Major Marine since they take their time and stop to view wildlife and glaciers calving). The only negative is you have to use port-of-johns; however there are two showers. They plan on adding bathrooms eventually; their port-of-johns are very nice considering! Honestly, it was a shock at first but if you are an avid camper then it is a minor discomfort. The host is so nice and serves a great cup of coffee in the morning! more
