I stayed at the Americas Best Value Inn because it was conveniently along Interstate 10 and close to where I had business the next day, and because of a positive experience with the hotel chain previously. The cost of the room ($72 with tax) was not cheap in comparison with other area hotels. I was surprised at the neglect in evidence. The motel's ice machine did not work, and the office handed out little zip-lock bags of ice from a home refrigerator. In the room, the toilet paper holder was falling out of the wall. The ceiling above the tub/shower was caving in. The carpet was frayed and stained and there were holes in the lamp shades. While the room was designated as non-smoking, the night stands were water and cigarette stained. They did offer morning coffee and tea, which was nice and hot, but next time I'll stay at the Motel 6 on the other side of the highway for 15% less money. more
