I've stayed at some of the most acclaimed hotels in the world in over 30 countries, and this hotel is so far my absolute favorite. The property is gorgeous; the architecture is a beautiful rendition of the Cape Dutch style with beautiful gardens and acres of polo fields. The interior decorating is quaint and each room belongs in a style... more

We arrived at Kurland 1 January 2009 and what a way to start a new year. A very friendly man greated us the moment we stepped out of the car and we were welcomed and given a tour of the hotel. The hotel only has 12 rooms and I must say that this place feels much more like a homestay... more

We travelled to Kurland at the end of a fanastic trip to S.Africa. We were slightly nervous as we'd had such a good time up to that point and Kurland was certainly the most expensive place we were staying and we weren't sure if it would meet our expectations. It was absolutely brilliant though. We have a 1 year old... more

We have started a Hotel Guide, and will be staying in quite a number of hotels in the months to come. This is one of the places that we would certainly recommend! Relaxed, peaceful and quiet. Great for escaping the Rat Race. more

What a magnificent stay. From the second we arrived it felt like home. We were greeted by management as soon as we got out of the car, and never felt like guest, but more like family or friends that came to visit. Nothing is to much trouble, if it’s getting a babysitter for the evening or trying to find a... more

The hotel is quite old. It is charming, but you can see and smell the ageing quite well. Our room was big and nice, but the terrace was a disaster. It had not been cleaned for ages and the furniture was old with dirty or no cushions at all. The water in our pool did not look clean. Except for... more

My title should say it all - it's very hard to fault this place. The hotel itself is beautiful - there is a main building with dining room, library and various sitting rooms. The guests stay in Dutch colonial style "chalets". We had a room with an upstairs loft for the children (complete with their own bathroom!). The main bedroom... more

We spent 2 blissful nights at Kurland on our recent trip through the Garden Route. The hotel is just beautiful - huge scenic grounds, gorgeous main house and incredible rooms. We had the best rooms in the place and I could not fault them. They were spacious, tastefully decorated, tranquil with a huge terrace and private pool looking over to... more

We've just returned from a three week trip to South Africa that included a two night stay at the Kurland. The other reviews are right - this place really is fantastic! Relaxing, superb service, excellent food (although we chose to eat out on the terrace rather than in the formal dining room) and lovely rooms. It was the highlight of... more
