To visit Schotia, we flew from the U.S. nonstop to Johannesburg (17 hours!), overnighted at the airport, then flew down to Port Elizabeth and rented a car. We decided to visit Schotia instead of working out a safari at Kruger because Kruger is so complicated, expensive, and risky (in the sense that you're never sure what you'll see, and it's... more

We had 2 amazing days at Schotia as part of a 3 week holiday in South Africa. Schotia had been recommended by friends. Whilst there we also met a South African couple who have been to several other private reserves and said Schotia was a world apart in terms of experience and value. Our Schotia experience included a morning in... more

What a great time we had at Schotia! Although it's a small game reserve they have a lot of game and they really make an effort to let you experience as much of the animals as possible (big chance to see lions!). Have at least 1 sleepover here, because the dinner at the camp fire is really nice experience as... more

After reading the Trip Advisor reviews, and dismayed at the cost of Shamwari, we booked the 2 night package and stayed in the larger 'bush hut'. This was beautifully designed and very cosy. There was a power point to charge camera batteries (essential!) but otherwise no electric, only candlelight and a gas stove to make tea. Amazingly there was a... more

Researching our trip to South Africa, I found Schotia reviewed on tripadvisor and, having now spent 2.5 days there, am so glad we took reviewers' advice and went there. The accommodation and food were superb and the proximity to animals fantastic. The friendly, small team were very organised and welcoming and made it all so enjoyable and unforgettable. We took... more

This was our first safari/game reserve experience and our best of the 3 we went to. This was because of the excellent (1) ranger in Neikie - absolutely THE best of our 3 experiences overall for rangers, (2) the food - again the best; especially the bacon at breakfast - without doubt the BEST bacon we'd ever had anywhere in... more

We did the 2 day package and I highly recommend it. Personally I dont think you get to experience it all in just a few hours. Our guide was very good and knowledgeable. We had great lion sightings. The foods was excellent and we were extremely suprised by the huts, they were amazing. If I go back to South Africa,... more

I spent a lot of time searching for the perfect safari for us to begin our honeymoon and looked at a lot of the big safaris in the area such as Shamwari, Amkhala, Buffalo Hills, etc and decided we wanted to stay in somewhere with a chance of seeing the Big 5 and also having an authentic experience. I thought... more

This was our third visit to Schotia which speaks for itself. Our ranger Ettienne was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. It was wonderful to see the new rhinos. Well worth staying overnight to experience the early morning drive especially if the weather is very hot and dry as more animals are seen in the cool of the morning. Good value for... more
