nice hotel with a nice garden. yet it looks like old style but it has a touch of luxury. some of the staff are not very friendly but they aren't that bad or rude. of course as i said i think it's cheaper than other luxury hotel in sandton. it's 4 star but i give it 5star more

It's a beautiful hotel near Johannesburg. If you have to go to the airport you can organize a car with the concierge (400 R) but, during the week there's a lot of traffic and it's better if you leave the hotel before 4.00 pm. Worth consideration if you're staying in Sandton. There's nothing wrong with this place - even if it's not part of a prestigious chain (Marriott, Hilton...). I stayed at the Balalaika for four nights on business and have no complaints at all. You obviously know when you book that its going to be a big, chain hotel, but it's a nice one with really pretty pool/outside areas, clean rooms and friendly staff who were always very helpful. Expedia dropped the ball on this one. I reserved this hotel on May 16 2009, and although it says COMPLIMENTARY BREAKFAST on more than one page of the Expedia website, neither the hotel or Expedia seem to understand what it means.
