Thank you for this oasis! This private place, pleasant and cheerfully gave me the opportunity to recharge my batteries after a long day at never-ending conferences at climate-summit December 2011. The breakfast in front of the tropical garden was a pleasure, the pool invite me to have a cooling after hot discussions and reports. I enjoyed my ten-day stay and... More

We have stayed at Essenwood House three times, each time for about one week, and will definitely stay there again when we are next in town. The upstairs rooms with balconies are best as they have great views. This year they have added free wireless internet and DSTV! The room we stayed in is beginning to look a little tired... More

This is a real gem - a fantastic, well-appointed B&B in a great location in the Berea, with beautiful sea views. The owner is friendly and welcoming, the breakfasts are fantastic and the pool and gardens totally relaxing. Very reasonably priced, and definitely worth a stay. We'll certainly be back when next in Durban. More

We stayed at beautiful Essenwood house for five days, and enjoyed every second. The owner is truly making every effort to make us feel comfortable. Due to a delayed bus, we arrived in the middle of the night, but he got up to let us in with a smile, even though we were supposed to be there five hours earlier.... More

I'd second everything everyone else said about the place. The owner takes a keen interest in the comfort of his guests--he wanders around at breakfast asking everyone if they know what they're doing for the day and how he can help. It was nice to spend time here. Glad I found it. More

We stayed in Durban for the climate summit COP 17 and Essenwood House was a very good place to stay: A quiet and nice place with big and comfortable rooms in english style - you can see the skyline of Durban from the verandah. Nice tropical garden with interesting plants and birds. Breakfast was very good, especially the fruit salad... More

I had a beautiful room (nr 1), situated upstairs, with a big terrace and a wonderful view over Durban city. This king-size bedded room was big with a charming bathroom, with both bathtube and shower. Very quiet location. If you don't have a car, it is neccessary to take a taxi (they are cheap in Durban), but Florida Road, where... More

Many thanks fo rthe very king things you had to say about your stay here. I was concerend at your opinion on "service"- we try to do everything possible for our guests comfort and only know what is not 100% if we know what it was that was not up to scratch, so I would love to hear what the... More

We enjoyed an extremely pleasant 2 night stay. The room was spacious and most attractive with exceptional views from the balcony. This, coupled with a most comprehensive breakfast and genuine welcome from the host, made Essenwood one of our top stays in South Africa. More
