Stayed here as part of a group with Virgin Holidays. The location of the hotel is fantastic... on the boarders of the Kruger Park.. so most rooms look out on the Kruger Park, along with many viewing areas and places to sit where you can see the wildlife a stone's throw away! The whole hotel is set up in the... more

This hotel has an amazing location near Kruger Main Gate and is an ideal location for game drives in the park. The hotel itself is teeming with wildlife, especially an abundance of Colobus monkeys. I even saw a bush baby one night walking back to the room. Although not so hygienic, it was great fun watching the monkeys sneaking into... more

Hotel has minor issues but overall its lovely. Perfect location, you can see kruger gates from tree house. Very friendly staff (an no, we didn't tip from the off) Reasonably priced drinks. Breakfasts ok (and breakfast packs you are provided with on early morning safaris are edible, and welcome) Dinner is fantastic if your a big meat eater like hubbie,... more

While traveling with a tour group we stayed at this hotel for two nights. The hotel was nice and comfortable. My back patio door was left open a crack before I had checked in the room so a lot of insects had entered my room. I didn't go to the front desk regarding this, I figured we are in Kruger... more

This hotel has a great location, right by the gate to the national park. Value was very good as was the service. Our rate included an evening buffet which I thought was good. The entertainment was enjoyable. The rooms however are very dark and not as nice as some of the other Proteas I've stayed at. The pool is also... more

If you want to spend a few days in Kruger National Park and want something a bit more upmarket than rondavels a great way to do it is to stay in Protea Hotel, just outside the Kruger Gate entrance. It has some great all in deals, much cheaper than similar level accomodation inside the park and just as convenient. Good... more

Protea hotels appear to be like the Holiday Inn of Africa, they are everywhere. The best thing about this hotel is the location right next to Kruger gate, but the only real advantage that gives you is that you can get up a bit later for a morning game drive. Getting in the park is still the same - you... more
