Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A beautiful old building that was originally built as an exclusive gentleman's club but has moved with the times and is now a beautiful hotel that has preserved the history but updated itself to meet the needs of today. Our room was beautiful, comfortable and well appointed. Our dinner in the Cecil Rhodes restaurant was very good. The hotel was quiet when we stopped so sensibly they have a limited but excellent menu to ensure freshness and quality. A great place to stay and eat at affordable prices.

Very disappointing!!!! This is supposed to be a boutique Hotel????? 4 star , how I do not understand. Lots of history but it’s now just rundown. Not an enjoyable stay at all. Not a recommended study in Kimberly. We were looking forward to our stay as so many people have heard about it . What’s the appeal the colonial history???

This review is relatively objective, as whilst a visitor, I have been on lengthy annual road trips for 13 years, with a two year Covid hiatus. Great to be back! I stayed (solo) for one night in January. Easily found in the rather neglected CBD area. What the website doesn’t make clear is that the parking (on the opposite side of the street) is enclosed, covered and guarded 24/7. Friendly, welcoming staff. It’s being marketed as a ‘boutique’ hotel - as seems to be the trend these days. Be under no illusion that The Kimberley Club is a superb example of a truly historic building being given modern plumbing, aircon etc without at all detracting from its authentic period charm. A true gem full of history in all areas. My balcony room was spacious, well equipped, comfortable and clean. The high ceilings made the use of the aircon unnecessary for me, despite the high daytime ambient temperatures. Excellent quality linen. The bathroom was sizeable enough, clean and with excellent shower water pressure - not always a given with properties of this age. I particularly enjoyed the balcony for that oh so essential morning coffee. The only reason my review is not 5 star is that my evening meal was quite disappointing. The steak was just acceptable by South African standards, i.e. high, but the accompanying vegetables were totally over cooked and mushy. One of the two desert choices was not available, with the remaining Malva pudding and ice cream being pretty poor - if that’s possible. Perhaps the cause of this was the fact that I seemed to be the only diner. Pity. The cooked breakfast was to an average standard. Recommended for lovers of authentic historic properties.

If you're interested in the history of Kimberley and South Africa, this stop is a must. Food was excellent and service exceptional. Many of the historic pieces are still displayed in the halls and the bar. Two large billiard tables provide hours of entertainment. We truly enjoyed it.

Friendly, accommodating staff and a beautifully preserved building filled to the brim with history. If SA history is an interest of yours, this is a must-see. Had a delicious meal, but the menu was not quite vegetarian-friendly.

The charm alone of the building and it’s original patrons is enough to make you rate this highly. Add to that the staff and check in and out experience and it’s even easier. Centrally located and well appointed. The club makes the ideal base to experience the new Kimberley staying in the old Kimberly

A beautiful building, in a dodgy location, with sweet staff. And sperm stains on the sheets. For real. Breakfast took nearly an hour to arrive. I hate to diss a place that is struggling, but when I complained, my complaint was dismissed. I was told that the manager would call….I am still waiting. Great shame

Kimberley has a rich history and by staying over at this boutique hotel, one can experience part of it. It is as if one stays in an hotel during the diamond boom era in Kimberley. The establishment is under new management that can only be described as best in class. We had a lovely dinner (the rump steak is recommended!) and a very nice breakfast. The splendour to be enjoyed here comes at extremely good value for money.
